Book launch date 22.11.22

For about the last year I have been writing a book, and I’m loving it. It helps that I am writing with my best friend Kay Woodburn, Managing Director of Gritty People.

It all began with her idea, in fact, I was reluctant to offer to help at the beginning because she had already got so far. I didn’t want to swoop in at the last minute and steal the credit.

Instead what we have created is pure collaboration. I love how we work together, she has an idea, I have an idea, and we end up with a third totally different idea that I just know neither one of us would have got to on our own. It is a beautiful blend of all of the messages of both Gritty People and 2nd Cup of Tea. We are able to share all the things we have learned and taught over the years.

We have enjoyed every step of the process so far, promising ourselves that if it stopped being fun, we would stop.

We have had creative sessions sitting in the sunshine in London’s Grosvenor Square. We have worked from a cosy cottage in The Cotswolds, and we have worked very late into the night in a Lakeside cabin in Nottinghamshire, we haven’t exactly roughed it.

At each place, within a couple of hours, the walls and every other surface have been covered in flip charts and post-it notes. We have discussed and written and re-written and changed direction so many times. Each time being happier and happier with the result.

It’s still a work in progress, and we have a deadline.

If we had a deadline at the beginning it would have felt like pressure, now it feels really exciting.

We officially hand our manuscript over to the copy editor later this month. So, while changes may still be made, we are close enough for me to tell you a little bit about it.

It’s a book about creating choice.

It’s about answering challenging questions, facing cold hard truths, getting gritty and changing your story.

It would appear to be true that it takes a catalyst to create change. And often that catalyst is a negative event. When coaching people living with cancer, they have often described it as exactly what they needed to decide to make a change. How fantastic would it be to decide to choose what you want without waiting for a medical diagnosis, redundancy, or near-death experience?

What if you simply decided to change your story? What if this book was the catalyst?

You have a choice.

You can change.

And here’s the thing, you don’t have to change the world.

All you need to change is you.

You could continue to believe that the problems are everyone else, that changing is impossible and that this couldn’t possibly work for you.

Or you could decide to trust us.

Some of this may be hard to hear. Some of the questions will be challenging and sometimes it will feel like we are saying it’s all your fault. And some of that is true. But then you always knew that it was possible to change, it’s why you’re interested in this book.

Decide it’s time to change.

Decide it’s time to get gritty.

Decide to change your story.

We are both passionate about helping people to achieve their hopes and dreams and goals. It is our wish that this book reaches as many people as possible and changes as many lives as possible.

The book will be available on 22/11/22
