I am happy with every area of my life, except one. My weight. I have been on a diet since I was 15 years old. I have had success for periods of time, but it never lasts. This time I am getting a different type of help. I have started to use weight loss injections. To help me be accountable, and to hopefully help others, I have started a blog, and you can find at www.skinnyjabstory.co.uk
I’m writing a book, yes me, really!
For about the last year I have been writing a book, and I’m loving it. It helps that I am writing with my best friend Kay Woodburn, Managing Director of Gritty People.
It’s a book about creating choice.
I’m so excited, I can hardly wait to share this with you!
How to coach yourself
If you’ve read my blog, “What is coaching”, you’ll already know that coaching is about answering questions. As a coach, I ask you questions that will help you gain new insight into whatever is going on for you. It’s not about me telling you what I think you should do, or what I would do if I was in your position, it’s helping you to sort through your own thoughts and working out what path you want to take.
Loving learning
I love to learn. I believe that lifelong learning is one of the most important tools to keep my mind active, my motivation high and my sense of purpose fired up. And although I know I learn something new most days, I still love to seek out opportunities to embark on more formal training.
New Year, same you.
I’m guessing that if you were one of the roughly 25% of British people who made a New Years’ Resolution, then you might also be one of the 73% who keeps none or at least, not all, of them.
Why do we keep making them if we know we’re not keeping them?
Do you believe?
Christmas is a time for believing in magic. As children we happily believe in magic then, as we grow older, our beliefs start to change.
Are your beliefs serving you well, or are they getting in your way?
Are you really listening?
When was the last time you really listened to someone, or someone really listened to you?
Sadly, it’s becoming a rare event. We are so distracted, we have busy lives and we multitask, whether we think we’re good at it or not.
When life gives you lemons…
Do you crack open the G&T or get a bitter taste in your mouth?
Probably one of the first mindset questions I can remember being asked is ‘is the glass half full or half empty?’ It seems that we have an idea that we’re either in the ‘always look for the positive’ group or the ‘doom and gloom’ category.
What is coaching?
So, here is my attempt, not to come up with a pithy slogan that would look good on a t shirt, but to explain what coaching is and what it isn’t. And I might not do this in a straight line so give me a bit of scope to explain this in chunks!
What’s outside your comfort zone?
We’ve all heard of the comfort zone and experienced the discomfort of stepping out of it.
Why is it important to keep on stepping out? Let’s start by exploring the zones.
